Ferdinand B. was born in Dinkelsbühl. Together with his brother he grew up there along with his parents. His father was a merchant. In October 1935, the family emigrated from Frankfurt to the United States. Ferdinand worked there despite the poor economic conditions to start a college education. Today he is a renowned scientist and university professor.
