Ilse Klestadt from Duisburg, lived and worked as a twenty-year-old at the Neu-Isenburg Home of the Jewish Women's Association for almost a year. She completed an apprenticeship there as an infant nurse. She then returned to her hometown, probably to her parents, the grain and feed merchant Julius Klestadt and his wife, Martha née Stern.
Ilse Klestadt was able to flee to England in 1939, where she survived the Second World War. Her sister Gerda also escaped the Nazis. Ilse immigrated to the USA in 1947. On July 16, she arrived in New York from Southampton. She lived there with her husband, Walter Robert until her death. Ilse Robert, née Klestadt died on August 11, 1969, of a heart attack in Chittenden in the state of Vermont.
