Hansi L. lived in the Home of the Jewish Women's Association at the age of 16 from November 1, 1936, to March 17, 1937. The reason for his stay is not known. It possibly had to do with his emigration plans.
Hansi came from the extensive L. family in Dieburg. The father, Simon L. III, was a butcher and operated a wholesale butchery.
Simon L. was arrested on November 10 during the November pogroms of 1938 and sent to Buchenwald concentration camp. He died there shortly afterward on November 19. Hansi and her mother survived the Shoah.
Hansi immigrated to the USA from Hamburg in late October 1937 aboard the ship "New York." Her mother initially remained in Germany but fled from rural Dieburg to the city of Berlin. In 1941 she entered the United States aboard the last ship. Frieda L. died in 1950 in New York.
