In the spring of 1941, Rosa Lazarus sought shelter for a few weeks at the Home of the Jewish Women's Association in Neu-Isenburg. She came from the neighboring town of Langen. There, together with her younger siblings Stephan and Gertrud Fanny she had lived with her parents Siegfried and Adele Jette Lazaraus, née Gombrich, and another female relative in Rheinstraße 6.

On September 6, 1938 Rosa Lazarus moved to Frankfurt Niddastraße 46. Her parents and their siblings initially stayed in Langen. After the November pogrom, Stephan Lazarus was taken to Buchenwald concentration camp, where he was imprisoned for a quarter of a year. During this time, the mayor of Langen forced parents to sell their property on Rheinstraße at a ridicule. They then moved to Frankfurt in Sandweg 40.

Rosa Lazarus took his life in Frankfurt on May 20, 1942. She had probably heard of the imminent deportation on May 24. Her grave is located at the New Jewish Cemetery in Frankfurt. Rosa's parents were deported to Theresienstadt on September 15, 1942. The mother, Adele Jette Lazarus, died there on February 6, 1943, the father, Siegfried Lazarus, on February 4, 1944. Rosa's sister Gertrud Fanny lived in the Jewish district school in Bad Nauheim in 1939. When the school was closed in the early summer, she also moved to Frankfurt. From there, she was presumably deported to the Sobibór extermination camp in the spring of 1942. The fate of Rosa's brother Stephan after his release from Buchenwald concentration camp is not known.
