Joel Loewenthal was the son of Ruth Ellen Loewenthal, who is also listed in this Memorial Book.
In the summer of 1941, both the mother and son sought shelter in "Heim Isenburg" just before the deportations of the German Reich began. They stayed in the facility which was already in the process of dissolution at this time for four months. On October 21, 1941, both were deported to Joel's birthplace, Bremen.
In the same year, Joel Loewenthal was deported from Bremen to the ghetto Minsk. He was two years old at the time. He was probably taken away with his mother on November 18, 1942. In the transport, there were 440 people from Bremen and another 408 from Hamburg (Gottwaldt / Schulle, p. 95 f.).
