Herta Lubinski grew up in Giessen. As she later reported in an affidavit, she attended elementary (Schillerschule) there from 1927 to 1934. In 1934, she moved to the Jewish School which was dissolved in the same year. She was then further trained at the Home of the Jewish Women's Association in Neu-Isenburg.
The duration of Herta Lubinski's stay at the Home of the Jewish Women's Association is unclear. According to her statement, she stayed until 1937. According to the police administration in Giessen from the year 1957, she moved from Giessen to Neu-Isenburg on August 18, 1935, and back to her mother in Giessen on May 6, 1938. She is only listed for September 1935 in the records of the home. Her last address in Germany was: Giessen, Kaplansgasse 19.
Herta Lubinski fled to the United States with her mother at the end of July 1938. There, she completed her training as a nanny and kindergarten teacher. Her later marriage name was Strauss. Herta Strauss, née Lubinski, died on 25 January 2000.
