Emma Haas worked for almost 18 years as Housemother in the Neu-Isenburg Home of the Jewish Women’s Association. When the 38-year-old came to Neu-Isenburg on August 1, 1924, she was a widow for nine years. Her husband, Albert Haas, was killed on July 31, 1915, in the First World War. Emma Haas lived with her daughter Else in the Home of the Jewish Women’s Association.
As one of the last residents, Emma Haas left “Heim Isenburg” due to the forced dissolution of the institution on March 16, 1942. She moved to Mainz and was assigned in the Gonsenheimer Straße, probably, in one of the "Jewish houses," Gonsenheimer Straße 13 or 15.
On February 10, 1943, Emma Haas was deported from Darmstadt to the Theresienstadt ghetto. She remained there for two years imprisoned. On February 5, 1945, 1200 Jewish prisoners from Theresienstadt were rescued to Switzerland in a business of people against foreign - exchange. Emma Haas was among them.
Emma Haas emigrated to New York, where she lived with her daughter Else and her family.
