Käthe was 24 years old when, just a few days before the pogrom in November 1938, she came to the Home of the Jewish Women’s Association in Neu-Isenburg. She is recorded in the lists of the female residents as a student, so she completed an apprenticeship or an internship in the institution.

Käthe Preis was the daughter of Alexander Preis (born April 3, 1883, in Kaiserslautern) and his wife Betty, née Dreyfuss (born November 24, 1882). Käthe and her twin sister, Ruth, were born on June, 11, 1913 in Saarbrücken. Shortly after the birth of the two girls, the family moved to Kaiserlautern on July 1, 1913, in the father’s birthplace. The family lived until 1936 in Glockenstraße 43, where Alexander Preis led a tobacco and spirits trade. Afterward, family Preis had to change the apartment several times; the parents lived last in Steinstraße 30. Also, Käthe Preis was logged out when she left „Heim Isenburg“ on April 1, 1940. However, she remained in Baden-Baden in the autumn of 1940.

Käthe, her parents and her sister were carried away to the southern French detention center Gurs (Basse-Pyrénées) in the mass deportation of the Baden Jews in October 1940. Alexander and Betty Preis from Kaiserslautern, Ruth from Mannheim and Käthe from Baden-Baden. In the camp of Gurs, they had to live in the most confined and primitive conditions. Alexander's Preis died one year after his arrival on October 5, 1941, at the age of 59 years. The female family members were further deported to the Rivesaltes camp (Pyrénées-Orientasles).

On August 14, 1942, Käthe Preis was deported to the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp, together with her mother and sister, over the “Sammellager” Drancy near Paris. There the three women were murdered. Käthe Preis and her sister were 29 years old at the time of their arrival in Auschwitz; Betty was 60 years old.
