Martha-Selma Rhein is the daughter of Lena (Lenchen) Rhein who is also listed in this memorial book. She was born in the Israelite Hospital in Frankfurt/Main, Gagernstraße 36, on 26 February 1921. In the Frankfurt civil status register she is registered under the name Selma Rhein, however, later she continued with the first name Martha. Shortly after her birth, Martha-Selma moved together with her mother to the "Home Isenburg". She stayed there for almost one year. On 14 February 1922 Martha-Selma was re-registered to Brühl, where she grew up. She attended the elementary school and the religious school of the Israelite community in Schwetzingen. At the age of fourteen she moved to Freiburg on 1 June 1935. For half a year, she presumably worked as a housekeeper for the widow Rosa Bloch, Geberau 2. On 15 January 1936, she moved to Karlsruhe, where she lived with her aunt Lina Goldschmidt, nee Rhein, who is also listed in this memorial book. In March and October 1938 Martha-Selma lived with the Rhein family in Brühl. From 13 September 1938 on she was educated in the agricultural school "Jessen-Mühle". In this farm in Jessen (today Jasionna in Poland), young Jews were prepared for emigration to Palestine. Five months later, Martha-Selma was registered in Mannheim, where her mother and the second wife of her grandfather, Frieda Rhein, nee Kahn, lived. On 22 October 1940 Martha-Selma was deported together with Frieda Rhein in the mass deportation of Jews from Baden and Saarland to the camp Gurs in southern France. Two years late, on 12 August 1942 she was deported to the concentration- and extermination camp Auschwitz. There the track of documentation is lost.
