Lena Rhein was born on April 12, 1894 in Ketsch on Rhein. Lena was the youngest daughter of Jakob Rhein (born on September 28, 1860 in Ketsch) and her wife Sara, née Rexinger (born on June 15, 1886 in Hechingen). Lena has two older sisters - Emma (born on April 17, 1887) and Johanna (born on August 1, 1889). Since 1896 the family lived in Brühl/Baden. 1919 Lenas mother died. In November 1920 Lena came to the Home 'Isenburg'. Three month later on February 26, 1921, she gave birth to her daughter Martha-Selma Rhein in the Israelitic Hospital in Gagernstr. 36., Frankfurt/Main. According to the birth certificate she was named Selma, later the first name was Martha.
On April 1, 1921 Lena Rhein came back to her father and his second wife Frieda, née Kahn, to Brühl/Baden. Later she moved together with Frieda Rhein to Mannheim. On October 22, 1940 Lena Rhein escaped a mass deportation of the Baden and Upper Palatinate Jews to the internment camp Gurs in Southern France, because of the fact she visited relatives in Hesse.
Her last address in Germany was the Jewish retirement home in Mannheim. During the World War II it was the last Home of the Jewish community of Mannheim.
On April 26, 1942 Lena Rhein was deported, together with the last Jews of Baden, who escaped the deportation on October 22, 1940, from Mannheim via Stuttgart to the Ghetto Izbica. Her trace is lost there.
