Marie Stein was the mother of Ilse Stein who is also listed in this Memorial Book. She apparently came along with her daughter shortly after her birth to “Heim Isenburg.” She left the establishment a little later, leaving behind the little Ilse.
Marie Stein was born in Zeil am Main. Her parents were Herz and Emma Stein, née Goldmann. Marie had three younger brothers. In 1927 or 1928, she moved to Frankfurt where she earned her living as a laborer. She, however, lost her job after the seizure of power by the National Socialists and became a kitchen and domestic aid.
In May 1940, Marie Stein was registered at the Jewish Pension Institution at Röderbergweg 77. She later lived and worked in the Jewish Community Hospital in Gagernstraße 36.
On September 24, 1942, Marie Stein and her daughter were deported to Raasiku in Estonia. No trace of them exists there on. On September 10, 1942, Marie’s father, Herz Stein was deported to the Theresienstadt transit and concentration camp where he died on April 15, 1944. Marie's brothers were able to flee from Germany to England and survived the Shoah.
