Johanna Kaufmann was deported along with her parents to the Gurs Detention Center. The father, Louis Kaufmann, died one year later, on October 30, 1941, in the French Rivesaltes Detention camp. The mother, Frieda Kaufmann, born merchant, was deported to Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp in the same transport as Johanna via the Dancy transit camp near Paris.
