Hedwig Grünstein was born on June 22, 1927 in Frankfurt/Main. She was the illegitimate daughter of Margarete Grünstein, who is also mentioned in this memorial book.
She was in the Home 'Isenburg' from July 7, 1927 until August 25, 1927. She left the Home 'Isenburg' together with her mother to Baumweg 21 in Frankfurt/Main.
She came back to the Home on an unknown date.
Presumably she travelled in 1934 to Glasgow, Scotland, together with her friend Emma Bär. Here they lived together in the Gertrude Jacobson Orphanage. Emma Bär knew her all her life and called her 'cousin'. It is not known whether there was any kinship between the two.
Later Hedwig Grünstein moved to Dumfries, Scotland. This is evident from some letters she wrote to each other with Tamar Grizim and Emma Bär.
